more about...
The Starlite Octette

The Starlite Octette was introduced in 1985. The Octette combines a big band motif with pop, rock, soul and other contemporary rhythmic styles. What has evolved is an all-encompassing presentation founded on "name band" classics of the late 30's and 40's, extended selectively to include major hits of succeeding decades.

Emphasis is placed throughout the periods covered to performing the recorded versions made popular by the original bands and artists. The Octette library contains photocopies or accurate transcriptions of these more popular arrangements, the playing of which results in instant recognition and appeal to a wide range of musical tastes and age groups.

The Octette continues in the authentic musical tradition of The Starlite Orchestra and is an ideal alternative to the full 17 piece band for playing to more intimate gatherings.

The Octette is ideally suited for playing concerts, dances, receptions or a combination of these. Ballroom dancing is a specialty. The client is encouraged to mix styles of music in proportion to the desires of the event sponsor, attendees and guests.

The Octette instrumentation consists of tenor and baritone saxophones, trumpet, trombone and a four piece rhythm section including guitar. This combination of instruments produces a lusty, mellow tone and a light, dance-able beat.

The musicianship is of a high caliber and includes members, past and present, of local military organizations. Vocal and instrumental soloists are similarly scintillating. The music is upbeat. Ours is a fun band. Another of our by-lines is "earthy sophistication."

The Octette is a self-contained unit. Cost and pricing comprise a vocalist (ninth person), library, music stands, lighting and sound system. This cooperative band is composed of self-employed musicians. Overhead cost is minimized. Underfoot cost is non-existent. Affordability is high priority.

The Starlite Octette is poised and ready to make your stellar event not only a success, but "a happening". Please contact the director, Trux Baldwin
