The Starlite Octette presents a distinctive style of music for discerning audiences that is unique in the Washington area.

The Octette instrumentation consists of: tenor and baritone saxophones, trumpet , trombone and a four piece rhythm section which includes guitar. This combination of instruments produces a lusty, mellow tone and a light dance-able beat. One of our accomplished female vocalists may be added.

The Octette continues in the authentic musical tradition of The Starlite Orchestra and is an ideal alternative to the full seventeen-piece band for playing to smaller gatherings

The Octette features the 'Dave Pell sound' associated with the Les Brown star tenor saxophonist and performs many of the original, Pell recorded, "soft swing" arrangements.

The Octette also plays the "name band" classics of Miller, Dorsey, James, Ellington, etc.; basic "riff" tunes whose charm can be captured by the smaller group. The 100% dance library contains a wide variety of Latin and contemporary rhythm selections as well.
